Sedgehill Academy Sixth Formers Enjoy University Success

Students’ A Level and equivalent results enable them to secure high-quality destinations, including some top Russell Group universities

Half of all A Level entries (50%) achieved the higher-level passes of A* to B

Today, students and staff at Sedgehill Academy in Lewisham have been marking the release of A Level and equivalent results with celebrations.

Strong results across the Sixth Form have seen students securing high-quality university offers, including from those in the Russell Group. This year, half of all A Level entries (50%) were awarded the higher-level passes of A* to B, with similar successes seen at equivalent vocational entries.

Among the students enjoying particularly impressive performances are three students who are all headed to the University of York:

  • Khamarni, who achieved an A* in English Literature and an A in Philosophy & Ethics, and has gained a place to study English and History;
  • Meltem, who will be beginning studies there in Economics and Politics, after achieving two As in English and History and a B in Maths;
  • Orlandas, who has secured a place to study Economics, after achieving an A in Maths, a C in Engineering, and a double Distinction in Business.

Other student success stories at Sedgehill included:

  • Aisha, who has secured a competitive place to study photography at the University for the Creative Arts. She leaves with a Merit in IT, a Distinction in Media, and Distinction*-Distinction-Distinction in Photography;
  • Manuel, who achieved a Distinction in IT, a Merit in Media and a B in Business, and will be attending the University of Westminster to study Software Engineering;
  • AJ, who is leaving to study Filmmaking at Kingston University, having achieved a Distinction in Media, a Merit in Music, and a triple Distinction in Photography;
  • Dylan, who is taking up a place at the University of West London to study Air Transport Management (Airline and Airport Specialist), having achieved two Bs in Geography and Philosophy & Ethics, and a Merit in Media;
  • Tracey, who is going to the University of Sussex to study Sociology, having achieved a Merit in Music, a B in Sociology, and a C in Philosophy & Ethics;
  • Diya, who achieved two Distinctions in IT and Media, and a Distinction*-Distinction-Distinction in Photography, and is heading to Goldsmiths to study Media and Communications.

Commenting on the day, Clare Cassidy, Principal at Sedgehill Academy, said:  

“It has been a pleasure to celebrate with our Year 13s today, knowing just how hard they have worked towards these qualifications. They have shown high levels of maturity and resilience across their studies, amidst the challenges of a pandemic, and this has shone through in what they have achieved.

“It is particularly gratifying to see so many of the group achieve their first choice university places and I know how excited we all are to follow their careers over the coming years. We all wish them well as they take these next steps with confidence.”
