Education with Character

Education with character is a high priority – because we know there is more to an excellent education than academic learning.

Throughout their time at Sedgehill Academy, students learn character, compassion and service. They are expected to contribute to our school community and to society. They learn to persist in the face of difficulty, try new things, challenge themselves, and to become resilient in overcoming obstacles.

Our students consistently tell us how much they appreciate everything staff put in place for their enrichment and wider personal development, inside and beyond the classroom.

Opportunities to shine for all, beyond the classroom

The creativity of our students knows no bounds so we aim to support this through rich opportunities in music, performance and the arts. Across every year group there is creative challenge and competition incorporated not only into our daily school routines and the curriculum, but also after school clubs and activities.

Our extracurricular offer matches the personality and diversity of our student body – with 50 or more different ways for them to master skills, challenge themselves to step outside their comfort zone and enjoy shared activities. That’s more than most schools offer and it’s because we care about each young person getting the chance to express themselves and nurture their own interests.

At the same time, we want to give students an edge when it comes to planning for their futures so they can make well-informed choices and draw upon a wider range of abilities and interests when applying for jobs, university and training courses.

With fantastic facilities, inside and out, we try to seize on every opportunity to give our students quality, sustained experiences – from the courts which play host to our talented Basketball Academy, to our recording studio which is the home of Sedgehill Academy’s very own in-house record label XFADE.

Young Mayor of Lewisham Vote

As part of Lewisham’s Young Mayor initiative, Sedgehill Academy hosted a polling day, giving our young people the opportunity to engage in a democratic process.

Three of our students also represented Sedgehill as candidates in the election, and we are incredibly proud of their leadership, dedication, and commitment to making a positive difference within the Borough of Lewisham.
