It is October, and that means it is the start of Black History Month at Sedgehill and around the UK.
Black History Month is an annual opportunity to ensure that we celebrate and discuss the stories and achievements of black men and women from around the world - and Sedgehill Academy is no different.
Continuing our proud tradition of celebrating BHM, 2024 sees a fantastic schedule of events being held.
Every member of staff will be paying tribute to their personal heroes with displays on every classroom door, and students will engage in quizzes every Friday to highlight the inspirational black men and women being celebrated around the Academy.
There will also be a very special assembly, highlighting the personal stories of members of our staff, and a whole host of activities after school, including:
- Dance workshops celebrating the development of music and dance throughout the decades;
- Hair braiding workshops highlighting the powerful role identity and appearance hold; and
- A screening of the global phenomenon Black Panther, starring the late great Chadwick Boseman.
The jewel in our crown, however, will be the
BHM lunchtime concert on the 24th October. This festival of music and culture will be raising money for the Sickle Cell Society, but you can donate
here right now!
