More than 50% of students achieve grade 5 or above in English and Maths
This year, over two thirds (68%) of the school’s students achieved a pass (grade 4 or above) in both English and maths, with 55% achieving grade 5 or above in the two subjects.
Moreover, an impressive fifth of students (21%) achieved a grade 7 or above in both English and maths – equivalent to at least an A under the previous system.
Amongst those students celebrating today are:
- David Lamont who achieved 9s in English Literature, English Language, Maths, Spanish, French, Chemistry and Physics and 8s in Biology and Geography
- Huyen Vu who achieved 9s in English Literature, English Language, Maths, History, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and 8s in Art and French
- Ting He who achieved 9s in English Language, Maths, Chemistry and History, and 8s in Biology, English Literature and Physics and a 6 in Art
- Russell Alizade who achieved 9s in English Literature, History and Combined Science, 8s in Business, Maths and RE, 7 in English Language
- Ava Drew who achieved 9s in Maths and Physics, 8s in English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Music, Geography and Drama plus a 7 in French
- Aiden Danks achieved a 9 in History, 8s in English Literature, Maths and Business Studies plus 7s in English Language, Drama and French and 5s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
These achievements follow last week’s A Level results, which saw a number of Sixth Formers at Sedgehill Academy secure offers from top Russell Group institutions, including Queen Mary University of London, University of Birmingham and University of Nottingham.

“Over the past few years, we have built a whole-school ethos of high standards and hard work and today’s GCSE achievements embody this. We are so proud of our Year 11s for the commitment they have shown to their studies, despite the challenges of the pandemic, and I would like to congratulate each of them on their results today.
“What is particularly gratifying is that a fifth of our students achieved a grade 7 or above in both English and maths, representing the highest outcomes possible. This is a credit to them and to our brilliant staff team, who continue to go above and beyond to give our young people everything they need to progress at the higher level.
“We look forward to celebrating with students today and welcoming back many of our Year 11s to our Sixth Form in a few short weeks.”
