Whilst releasing an album is nothing new for the school's own record label, X Fade Records, EP1, released last week, is the first album to be available for sale and streaming across all major music platforms. These include Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music and You Tube.

EP1 is a compilation of 5 tracks written, recorded and produced by the students at Sedgehill Academy working with Andy Gilbert.

At Sedgehill Academy reading is one of our most important activities and beginning the day with ‘Read Aloud’ in our tutor groups for Years 7-10 is a key part of helping all students experience the joy of reading. Tutors read aloud to the class while all the students follow along in their own copies of the text using their reading rulers. These rulers have been proven to help students of all reading abilities track the text and are an important part of our reading routine.

Since 2005 Sedgehill Academy along with our Musician In Residence, Andy Gilbert, have supported songwriting & studio recording projects to give students individual mentoring on their development as a singer, rapper, songwriter or producer. Our state of the art recording studio has been at the centre of all the work produced and has given the students a chance to experience creating their own music in a fully professional environment. XFade Records officially started as a a brand in 2012 which pulled all the amazing talent together in one place. Since then XFade artists have written over 300 original songs, put on live showcases and have accumulated over 150,000 plays collectively on Soundcloud so far. This has lead to many of our students progressing into the music industry either as performers, songwriters or producers. Our choir Vocalize plus several more of our talented musicians treated the whole school to a lunchtime concert at the end of this term.
