Sedgehill Academy's Musician In Residence
Andy Gilbert has been Sedgehill Academy's Musician In Residence since 2005 developing young artists, musicians and music producers.
Andy's music career began at Sedgehill in 1992 when he started out as a music teacher. He taught here at Sedgehill until 2000 when he left teaching after sealing a record deal to produce his own album.
Andy's pop career in the '90s included auditions for iconic groups like Genesis - he got down to the last 2 auditioning for the lead singing role to take over from Phil Collins!!
Fortunately for us, Andy decided that he preferred making music from the other side of the mixing desk, and he has since built up a very successful career producing music for a wide range of artists and groups, achieving international hits with K-Pop and J-Pop bands. Andy has been Musician In Residence here at Sedgehill since 2005 helping young people to develop their music and music production skills in our professional recording studio.
In his time here at Sedgehill, Andy has seen many former students go on to achieve considerable musical success:
Alongside mentoring our school choirs, Vocalize and Coda, and producing music for X Fade Records, Andy also works with Flames Collective who are a 22 member youth vocal collective mentored by UD who create life opportunities for young people inspired by the sounds, words and rhythms of Black music culture.
